Co‑founder Brandyn Steen joined the Feb. 9 Wabaunsee County Commission meeting by Zoom to request a special‑event permit for Rock the Plains at the Irish Trucking property near Wabaunsee Road and Interstate 70. Present in person were county staff and local stakeholders including Coleman Younger, Kyle Baxter and Doran Herbel, who participated in the permit discussion.
Commissioners asked detailed questions about parking plans, vendor management, sales tax collection, security arrangements, expected attendance, overnight camping and food and beverage concessions. County staff said Wabaunsee County maintains permit templates for large events such as Symphony in the Flint Hills and bicycle rides, and that staff will consult Pottawatomie and Riley counties for feedback on logistics and conditions. The commission continued the Rock the Plains permit discussion to its Feb. 23 meeting and asked organizers to provide required agreements and indemnifications before approval will be considered.
