Wabaunsee County approves shop roof contract, submits bridge funding applications to KDOT

The Wabaunsee County Commission on Feb. 2 accepted Thowe Construction's estimate to replace the south-side roof of the county road shop with 24-gauge seamless steel after a presentation from Road & Bridge Supervisor Josh Hinch.
Hinch told commissioners the board reviewed multiple estimates and opted for the Thowe Construction bid. He also presented applications for the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program (KLBIP) and the OS Bridge Program and said staff will submit the applications as presented; he said he expects KDOT to announce decisions in May 2026. The board took no separate recorded roll-call on the roof acceptance beyond the general agreement recorded in the minutes.
Hinch said county trucks were dispatched to Lyons, Kansas to pick up road salt because the vendor could not deliver quickly enough, and that full Road & Bridge staff will attend Forklift and Flagger Certification Training this week. Those operational details were presented as routine updates and require no additional commission action at this meeting.
