UN says it stands ready to support Palestinian legislative elections set for Nov. 28

Ramiz Alatbarov told the Security Council that on July 9 Palestinian President Abbas issued a decree setting legislative elections for November 28 across the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. He said an inclusive and credible electoral process would be an important step toward strengthening governance and responding to Palestinian aspirations.
Alatbarov welcomed the announcement and urged stakeholders to create the conditions necessary for elections, including enabling participation by all eligible voters. He said the United Nations stands ready to support Palestinian efforts in coordination with the Central Electoral Commission.
