Mid States Materials notifies Jackson County of 50-cent-per-ton increase for Denison quarry road rock; contract review planned

Chad Gerhardt of Mid States Materials presented updated pricing for the Denison quarry and told the commissioners that 1 1/4-inch road rock has increased "from $21.50 per ton to $22 per ton, a 50-cent increase." He also clarified that a previously circulated $25.15-per-ton price sheet reflected list pricing and that Jackson County receives a reduced rate.
Commissioner Keith Kelly pressed that rising rock costs have complicated county budgeting: he noted the county had cut the rock budget by $300,000 this year to remain revenue neutral and said pricing changes make it hard to plan. Kelly told the meeting he would seek to have Mid States pay for liquid dust abatement on the haul route (about $7,000 per mile) and questioned whether a $0.15-per-ton rebate remains sensible. Chad said the Denison site involves deep rock and significant overburden, increasing extraction costs, and he agreed to meet with county staff to discuss contract structure before the Sept. 1 renewal.
