Students, Spanish department and alternative education highlight start of year successes

Student Representative Jasleen Gill told trustees that homecoming week was successful and that roughly 350 people attended the homecoming dance at Historical Park. Jasleen said school spirit was strong and that Rivalry Week will lead up to the football game with Selma High School, with a rally scheduled for Nov. 1.
Martha Gudino, Spanish Department Head, reported that the department will serve 563 students this year with a $10,000 budget for projects and field trips; she noted classroom use of Chromebooks, Google Classroom, Gimkit and Quizizz and highlighted a field trip for AP Spanish students to downtown Fresno for Día de los Muertos. "Last year, all AP Spanish students scored 100% on their AP test!" Gudino said. Director Ryan Walterman reported that alternative education enrollment is up (57 at OASIS; 60 at Kingsburg Independent Study) and outlined student extracurricular activities and planned field trips to College of the Sequoias.
