Highway superintendent outlines truck replacement costs and repair needs

Hamlin County Highway Superintendent Bryan Pedersen told the Board the department has had repeated repairs on a 2010 International truck and is exploring replacement options. Pedersen said a Spink County bid for a 2027 Mack truck is about $160,000 and additional equipment from the old truck could be reused but is estimated to require roughly $75,000 in extra equipment costs. Because dealers will not accept trade-ins, the department would need to sell the 2010 unit outright and arrange vendor meetings to review options.
Pedersen also reported the department performed a repair on a motor grader using in-house labor with parts costing about $3,400. The Board directed that a company representative be asked to meet the Board to discuss truck options and specifications; minutes note the Board also asked the superintendent to look into leasing programs as an alternative.
