Council amends redevelopment deal to upsize water main to resolve low-pressure problems for EZ Coin Laundry

The city approved ordinance 41-27 to amend a redevelopment agreement with EZ Coin Laundry to address a chronic low-water-pressure issue that affected the business and nearby properties. Mayor Absher said the amendment allows the city to authorize direct payment to a contractor under the TIF redevelopment agreement to upsize portions of the main where a 2-inch line has not provided adequate pressure.
Council members and staff discussed routing, connection points and that the project will change the line from small-diameter piping (2- or 4-inch) up to 6 inches in key locations to improve pressure for Lexington South, Ward Street and Sherman Drive. Staff said the contractor will connect the housing-authority line to the new main to increase pressure in the affected area. The ordinance was seconded and approved on roll call.
Council noted the project will also help ongoing water-pressure issues on Sherman, Jody Lane and south of Lexington Street; cost and bid details were addressed in the meeting packet and staff confirmed eligible costs and bid results.
