Council Members Staci Carroll and Ryan Hunter sworn in; Carroll highlights past projects, Hunter thanks staff

City Recorder Terilyn Lurker administered the Oath of Office to Staci Carroll and Ryan Hunter during the Jan. 5 special session of the American Fork City Council.

Council Member Staci Carroll, beginning her third term, thanked her husband and children for support and listed projects she said she is proud of, including Boat Harbor enhancements, library updates, Fire Station 52, a large park near the lake, Mary and Art Dye Park, and preserved Monarch Park. Carroll urged colleagues and residents to "assume good intent" and to treat those across the table as neighbors: "the person across from you is your neighbor; treat everyone with respect." She said that in local government "not everyone is going to like you" and that serving is for those willing to show up.

Council Member Ryan Hunter said he felt unprepared but appreciated serving alongside Carroll, whom he described as prepared and capable. Hunter thanked his wife and children and praised staff for their work, saying the council makes decisions on the information staff provides and encouraging residents to reach out: "They live here, too, and want to hear from them." Council Member Ernie John and Council Member Clark Taylor also offered brief remarks affirming their pleasure at serving the city. Following closing remarks, Ernie John moved to adjourn, Clark Taylor seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
