Superintendent reports start-of-year preparations; district investigating campus theft

Superintendent Dr. Ryan Phelan told trustees on Aug. 12 that he has settled into the district office and that maintenance and IT staff have been working to ensure a smooth start to the school year. He said flatwork at the front of the campus would take place Wednesday and Thursday of that week and that recently installed trees and plants at the campus center are failing and will be replaced under warranty.
Phelan also reported a theft on campus the prior night that affected the MOT, agricultural and classroom areas; he said the matter is under investigation. He noted an upcoming full-staff kickoff lunch and said the board will honor Don Shoemaker for his service as superintendent. The superintendent’s report was delivered as part of the regular meeting updates and required no board motion.
