MNPS details new start times and transportation rollout ahead of Aug. 11 start

The Metro Nashville Public Schools board heard a detailed implementation update on a districtwide change to school start times and the transportation plan meant to support the new bell schedule.
Chief of Operations Maura Sullivan credited months of planning and emphasized student safety and communication as guiding principles. "High schools will begin at 7:25 a.m. and dismiss at 2:25 p.m.; elementary schools will begin at 8:10 a.m. and dismiss at 3:10 p.m.; middle schools will begin at 8:55 a.m. and dismiss at 3:55 p.m.," Sullivan said. She noted magnet and charter schools will not change when they operate on separate schedules.
Carl Allen, CEO of Formative, described routing audits, stop consolidation and driver dry runs conducted this summer. "We've completed a first draft of routes, conducted driver feedback loops and built monitoring tools to track on-time performance from day one," Allen said. The team also plans continuous improvement cycles after school opens.
Board members praised drivers and staff for the work done over the summer and asked for continued transparency with families. Member Elrod specifically urged promotion of the district's bus-tracking features, calling them "a really desired thing" for families. Sullivan confirmed the Find My Bus Stop app is live and said the district will publish final route details and site-specific plans ahead of the first day of school.
