Planning staff previews tree ordinance and house-form standards as part of Development Regulations update

Planning Director Chuck Jarrell told the Board that work is underway to revise the Development Regulations as part of an existing moratorium, beginning with immediate updates to Articles 1 and 2 and glossary definitions. Jarrell asked whether proposed updates must be forwarded to the Planning Commission for review and recommendation before Board consideration.
Jarrell presented draft language for a proposed tree ordinance intended to discourage clear-cutting and mass grading associated with development; he noted that tree protection provisions existed in the 2005 Zoning Ordinance and had been removed later. Jarrell also outlined suggested house-form design standards, responding to direction from the August 2025 retreat to provide information on architectural restrictions and potential locations and to address metal siding on residential structures, including barndominiums. Staff will make revisions based on Board feedback and send the drafts to the Planning Commission for formal consideration.
