Commissioners approve additional SPLOST funds and award Animal Services gate contract

The Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved additional Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds March 3 and awarded a contract to Overhead Door for $28,055 to install motorized gates at the Animal Services facility.
Will Stevens, Director of Animal Services, told the Board the installation of motorized gates had been included in the FY26 SPLOST budget at $20,000 but that two bids were received and the lowest bid came in at $28,055 from Overhead Door. Staff asked the Board to approve additional SPLOST funds to cover the difference and recommended awarding the project to Overhead Door. The motion to approve the additional funds and award the project passed unanimously.
The award increases the project cost above the originally budgeted SPLOST allocation; the minutes record the dollar amounts but do not show a detailed breakdown of available SPLOST contingency or which SPLOST line item will be adjusted.
