Officials discuss possible changes to Utah County governance and redistricting timing

Kay Kristofferson described a proposal he ran seeking flexibility in county commission numbers without changing the form of government or requiring a public vote, and said the conversation included concerns over representation when there are no commissioner districts.
"I ran a bill last year that would make it so the number of commissioners could be increased without changing the form of government or requiring a vote from the citizens," Kristofferson said. He noted issues with current county arrangements, including the possibility of multiple commissioners from a single city when districts are not used.
Council Member Tim Holley asked about congressional redistricting. Representatives said the matter is currently before the courts and that the upcoming election will proceed under whichever maps the courts order.
