Staff seeks Station 305 IT upgrades, AED purchases and a community AED grant

Chief Pyle told the committee Station 305 needs IT/AV upgrades, fiber installation and security systems as part of the 305 project; he said these items were more cost‑effective to deliver through city IT than as a full turnkey contract.
He also proposed purchasing AED units for stations and a $15,000 community AED grant to help nonprofits comply with a new requirement taking effect Dec. 31, 2025 that mandates AEDs in places of assembly with more than 100 occupants and other spaces. "AEDs currently are in the ballpark of, dollars 1,500," the chief said, and staff expect the grant money would help nonprofits secure devices they otherwise could not afford.
The chief said replacement technology and routine electronics should be budgeted annually because radios, iPads and mapping systems degrade over time; he also credited cooperative purchasing and the city's procurement officer for finding savings on recent vehicle purchases. Staff will return with specific line items and grant administration details if the committee supports adding the program to the CIP.
