Committee: UDC update will be limited to MPC jurisdiction; outreach and developer input planned

Committee members pressed staff for details on scope and public engagement on March 18 as the planned UDC update moves toward contract execution. Parish Attorney Patrick Jackson asked whether private enterprise would be included; Carlotta Askew-Brown said community meetings will be scheduled parishwide to ensure developers, stakeholders and communities are included and that a website will be available to track progress.
Askew-Brown and others clarified the update covers only the Bossier City–Parish MPC jurisdiction "located inside the City of Bossier City, as well as a five-mile radius outside of city limits." She noted the Town of Benton adopted a land-use plan in approximately 2022 and that the Town of Haughton also has a land-use plan. Shelly Horton, Executive Director of the Haughton MPC, told the committee that Haughton is not under a moratorium and PUD applications are available.
