Police Jury ratifies participation in six-remnant opioid MDL settlement

Parish Attorney Patrick Jackson updated the Police Jury on developments in the national opioid multidistrict litigation, reporting that six remaining defendants reached a settlement. Jackson recommended the Parish of Bossier join other local governments in executing Subdivision Settlement Participation Forms for the remnant-defendant settlement. He advised jurors that the parish will continue to hold settlement funds until an agreement is reached about permissible local uses of the monies.
Jurors unanimously ratified the resolution authorizing execution of participation documents. Jackson said the parish will maintain the funds in escrow until specific local-use guidance is established among participating governments and counsel.
