Planning staff presented the draft Troup County comprehensive plan, describing a large appendix of background materials and community survey results. Staff said the draft highlights rural-character preservation, balanced growth, a new "gateway" character area centered on interstate intersections, and an implementation-focused community work program; the appendix will include the transportation plan and full survey responses.
Staff recommended a first-reading resolution to transmit the draft to the 3 Rivers Regional Development Commission and the Department of Community Affairs for review and noted the county must adopt a plan by Oct. 31. Commissioners said they wanted absent members to have time to review the draft and moved to table the item for two weeks; the motion to table carried. "This is the 1st reading and I will add, of course, we will be going through it still to make sure there's no clerical errors," the planner said.
