Planning board backs adding food trucks to PDD‑2, urges intergovernmental meeting on Revere Beach infrastructure

The Revere Planning Board voted to recommend that food trucks be permitted in PDD‑2 — the planned development area near Wonderland MBTA station and the future Revere High School — while also urging a cross‑government meeting to examine infrastructure needs at Revere Beach and other locations. The board asked that the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the mayor’s office, the Department of Community Development, the license commission and the city’s state delegation convene to explore pads, hookups and other infrastructure measures.

Claire Inzarillo, speaking for the City Solicitor's Office on behalf of the absent city planner, summarized the licensing process and cautioned that state action in 2026 will standardize food‑truck inspection rules. She said food trucks operate under a multiagency permitting regime — license commission approval, Board of Health, fire and building inspections — and often hold annual licenses rather than single event permits. “The Department of Revenue classifies them under restaurant food service, so they pay the 6.25% meals tax,” Inzarillo said when answering questions about city revenue.

Board members raised concerns about generator noise, proximity to restaurants and residences, and parking impacts. Several members supported both a favorable vote for PDD‑2 and a separate recommendation that the mayor's office, DCR, licensing and state representatives meet to design infrastructure — such as level pads, water and electric hookups — for Revere Beach to reduce noise and operating problems. The planning board’s votes were recorded in the meeting minutes and the recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council and other agencies for follow up.
