City Administrator Witherspoon updated the council and public on the status of the proposed data center zoning ordinance and related procurement.
He said the ordinance is currently with the city attorney and must go to the Planning Commission before it returns to council. To supplement the ordinance review staff issued RFPs for a tax consultant and an industrial hygienist (to advise on tax implications and environmental/industrial hygiene concerns for data center zoning); the due date for proposals was stated as Aug. 3 and staff plans to bring submissions to the next council meeting. Residents asked whether the zoning ordinance would be available to the public and the Planning Commission process was confirmed as the next step, which will provide an opportunity for public review and comment when it returns through the normal planning process.
The city emphasized that RFPs are intended to inform the ordinance drafting; no final ordinance was adopted at this meeting. Staff will report back on proposals and next steps after the RFP deadline.
