Library trustees present $400,000 donation and ask selectmen for support

Patricia Saradian, secretary of the Lincoln Library trustees, presented an update and asked the Select Board to support an enhancement project after the trustees received a $400,000 anonymous donation and a separate $100,000 matching offer.
Saradian said the donor stipulated "meaningful progress must be made by January" for the gift to be released. The trustees have solicited three architectural proposals and plan public informational meetings in the fall; they described next steps as hiring an architect, developing conceptual plans and meeting with the community. One architect's proposal available to trustees was described as roughly $31,700 for services that include assistance through construction procurement, while other proposals were higher and included reimbursable expense allowances. Trustees and staff discussed drawing and cost timelines; trustees said they hope to have materials by November that would allow a warrant article to be considered in March.
After questions about CIP funds and matching, a member moved that the Select Board support the trustees in going forward with the enhancement project, anticipating donated and matching funds and a future warrant article. The motion passed on a board voice vote.
