Dane County commission authorizes staff to explore Pro Housing Round 3 application; one abstention

The Dane County CDBG Commission voted to authorize staff to explore applying for HUD’s Pro Housing Round 3 funding, and to pursue possible municipal partnerships or a county-led application.
Chair Brown moved to give staff the authority to explore the opportunity; Kathy Camp seconded. Joanna, a county staff member, told the commission the county had learned of a Round 3 NOFO with an Aug. 3 application deadline and said the county was still early in deliberations: “This is very, very early information. There is nothing yet set in stone.” Staff emphasized uncertainty about who would be the applicant (the county or a partner municipality) and noted that HUD’s new NOFO appears to have different or additional requirements compared with prior rounds.
Commissioner discussion centered on giving staff flexibility to continue outreach while preserving the option for a municipality to lead the application. Chair Brown called the voice vote and the motion carried; one commissioner was recorded as abstaining (Laureen). Staff said a public hearing would be required if the county moves forward and proposed holding that hearing on July 28.
