County proposes duct-detector upgrades at Juvenile Court and five dumpster enclosures at county sites

Staff recommended replacing five hard-to-service duct detectors at the Juvenile Court courtroom for $26,156.14 and installing five new dumpster enclosures across county facilities to improve maintenance, reduce theft and limit illegal dumping.
County maintenance staff presented two groups of facility-safety and beautification projects: new duct detectors for the Juvenile Court rooftop HVAC units and five dumpster enclosures at county recreation and administrative sites.
Jay Anderson said the Juvenile Court courtroom had older duct detectors mounted high in the courtroom return plenum that are difficult to service; Siemens quoted $26,156.14 to remove the old detectors and install accessible detectors in the rooftop units tied into the existing monitored alarm system. Anderson said moving detectors into the rooftop units will improve testing and maintenance without requiring lifts inside the courtroom.
On dumpsters, Anderson said staff have been installing enclosures as funding allows to reduce illegal dumping and discourage theft. West Georgia Custom Fence provided unit pricing for five enclosures (typically 6 feet tall with black slats; one quoted at 8 feet). Staff said enclosures will be placed at the new Dallas Street dumpster area, Griggs, Harris Baseball Field, Shuford and Whitesville Road and that local vendor pricing has been competitive.
Both items will be on tonight’s agenda for formal approval.
