Juvenile Court asks commissioners to renew two delinquency-prevention grants

Ayesha Davis, representing Juvenile Court, asked the board for permission to renew two state grants that fund programs aimed at diverting first-time or at-risk youth from deeper involvement with the juvenile justice system.
Davis said the Delinquency Prevention I grant supports two Strengthening Families groups per year, has helped more than 70 youth and their families since March 2021, and allows applicants to request up to $42,000. "Applicants can apply for up to 42,000. Funding for this award ends 09/30/2026," she told the board. Delinquency Prevention II funds evidence-based prevention strategies, may be used for facilitator compensation, training, supplies and incentives, and allows applications up to $50,000 with the same 09/30/2026 funding end date.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the amounts and program oversight. Staff confirmed the requests will appear on the evening agenda for formal approval and noted the programs' stated goal is to reduce the risk of further juvenile justice involvement by providing targeted services and supports to at‑risk youth.
