Iron County committee backs resolution requesting emergency dredging at Saxon Harbor

The Forestry & Parks Committee voted unanimously on Jan. 15 to approve a resolution supporting a request for emergency dredging at Saxon Harbor and to forward the resolution to the County Board. Committee member P. Hanson moved to approve the resolution; T. Hiller seconded the motion and the committee recorded the action as "all in favor."
Forest Administrator Eric Peterson briefed the committee that the Saxon Harbor/Harbor Drive project is included in Senator Baldwin's 2026 request for Direct Congressional Funding and appears in the Department of Homeland Security budget, which has not yet been approved. Peterson said Stantec and the U.S. Army Corps had been consulted about riprap installed in the late 1980s, and he noted Jan. 15 was the last day for existing slip holders to secure slips for 2026; seven slips remained open as of that date.
