Iron County timber sales bring $2.05 million in 2025, up 26% from 2024

Forest Administrator Eric Peterson reported that Iron County's 2025 stumpage receipts totaled $2,052,948.65, compared with $1,629,045.52 in 2024, an increase of $423,903.13 (26.0%). Peterson told the Forestry & Parks Committee that county staff are managing 11 active timber sales and that six logging crews were working on county forest sales as of the Jan. 15 meeting.
Peterson said loggers were attempting to take advantage of current conditions amid tight markets for pulp and sawlogs, and that interest in carbon credits remained limited but was expected to continue into the first quarter. The committee did not take formal action on timber-sale operations during the meeting. The administrator's report also noted ongoing winter plowing on Augustine Creek, Shirley Lake and Hogsback roads and a forestry tractor front-track replacement purchased from Lulich for $12,000 due to a nationwide parts shortage.
