DSR reports zero-waste events, energy-advocate outreach and electric mowers at Hope Cemetery

Luba Lubasarova reported Department of Sustainability and Resilience program updates: the zero-waste program is active with composting at community events and requires staffing for education at collection stations; the department will continue to support city clean-team events and asks residents to sign up via the website.
Luba noted that bulk-waste fees are being waived in August and that a hazardous-paint drop-off will be available; she encouraged residents to use those services. On energy, the Smart Energy Advice program continues and the department now provides monthly progress reports on outreach by the energy advocate. The department partnered with Parks to buy an electric ride-on mower for Hope Cemetery and said electrifying mowers is administratively easier than electrifying vehicle fleets because mowers can plug in to existing outlets.
Committee members thanked staff and emphasized outreach; no funding votes were taken at the meeting.
