Dr. Ward estimated the project’s total cost at approximately $1,200,000, with roughly $700,000 remaining to bring the plant into full compliance with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) requirements. He said a recent DEQ inspection identified additional items needing repair and that staff will explore grants and low-interest loan options for a follow-up project. Juror Tom Salzer asked whether rusted parts are steel; Dr. Ward said galvanized steel appears to have been used and that the parish will consider stainless-steel alternatives for replacement.
