Winn Parish road superintendent flags two bridges needing attention; Coochie Break repair may cost up to $60,000

Road Superintendent Perry Holmes updated the Winn Parish Police Jury on road work and bridge issues Nov. 18. He said grading and pothole patching are underway and that Swepco is moving utility poles near the Harrisonburg Bridge ahead of a bridge project tentatively scheduled to start in September 2025.
Holmes said a final DOTD bridge report identified two sites in need of attention: one on Jessie Hanson Road, which he expects can be repaired when water levels fall, and another on Coochie Break Road. He said an estimate for repairs at Coochie Break could be $50,000–$60,000 and that, because there are no homes on that haul road, the Jury may consider removing it from the Parish road system rather than fund an expensive repair.
Holmes also reported equipment status: the side boom is in the shop again and vehicle repair logs are provided in jurors' packets. No motion or vote on the Coochie Break options was recorded at the meeting.
