Karly Hubbard Stewart, speaking for Dixie Youth, asked the Jury Oct. 21 to help make the City of Winnfield ball field chair-accessible and to assist with drainage and equipment so the parish can host a Buddy Ball program for people with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Stewart said community partners include the City Recreation Department, the Rec Board and Winn Dixie Board, and that Buddy Ball currently operates in Olla, Ruston and Bossier.
Stewart described the program's goals as teaching teamwork, promoting self-esteem and strengthening support networks for athletes and families; she told jurors she would coordinate a written request through the mayor’s office for the Jury to consider. The Jury discussed the request and no formal commitment of funds or timeline was recorded at the meeting.
