The Winn Parish Police Jury voted Oct. 21 to appoint Scotty Lawson as Constable for Justice of the Peace for Ward 10 after the resignation of Joseph Owens. The motion, moved by Juror Darrell Franks and seconded by Phillip Evans, carried with four yeas (Carpenter, Evans, Franks, Garrett), two abstentions (Potts, McLaren) and one absence (Author Robinson).
The Jury also set a special election schedule to fill the seat: a primary on March 29, 2025, a general election on May 3, 2025, and qualifying dates of Jan. 29–31, 2025. The resolution accompanying the appointment was entered into the record as Resolution #020 of 2024. No additional conditions or appointment terms were reported during the meeting.
