County project staff presented cost updates for the Whitesville Road Soccer Complex expansion and recommended buying three 52-ounce turf fields at $2,293,145, $60,000 for geotextile fabric and $74,052 for perimeter sod. "Our recommendation was to go with the 52 ounce for 3 fields, which is 2,293,145," a presenter said during the meeting. The board approved the purchase and associated Phase 3 items by motion and voice vote.
Staff told commissioners the Callaway Foundation has pledged $750,000 toward the project, which will offset county costs. Officials said netting and landscaping will be presented for later approval and that unsuitable soils on parts of the site had been mitigated and reproof‑rolled; staff estimated the full remaining work could be completed in 60 to 90 days if weather cooperates. The board carried the motion to proceed with the turf and related Phase 3 work.
Board members asked for later return to approve netting and additional landscaping costs. The board approved phase authority and asked staff to present final change orders and any additional pricing before further encumbrances.
