The Greene County Water and Sewer Department received a Virginia Association of Counties achievement award recognizing the county's small-county program to cross-train staff between water and wastewater operations. Dane Tutzer of the Virginia Association of Counties presented the award and praised the county's work to create a model other localities could follow.
A county official described the department's creation in 2023 after acquisition from the Rapidan Service Authority, explained licensing and training requirements for operators, and credited a cross-training program for improving resilience and water-quality performance. The county said the program allowed operators to gain both water and wastewater licensure while maintaining service coverage.
