The Isle of Wight County Planning Commission voted to advertise proposed zoning ordinance amendments for a public hearing on July 28, following a review of red-line changes discussed at a May 12 work session.
Planning Director said the package reflected the commission’s requested edits, including a 30-day notice from the zoning administrator that an application is about to go inactive, a 12-month inactivity period after which an application would be considered null and void, raising the allowed number of adult backyard chickens from six to ten, and a requirement that green lumber be removed from a private sawmill site every 90 days unless approved by the zoning administrator. "You wanted a 30 day notice from the zoning administrator...to go along with the 12 month inactivity period before an application is considered null and void," the Planning Director said.
A commissioner moved to advertise the amendments and schedule the public hearing at the commission’s next regular meeting. The commission recorded unanimous affirmative responses in the roll call (Brian Carroll; James Ford; Jennifer Boykin; Raider Gibbs; Matthew Smith; Brian Shotwell; George Rawls; Keith Johnson; Thomas DeStefano; Bobby Bowser). The Planning Director said staff would prepare the public-hearing advertisement and the related materials for the July 28 meeting.
