Council extends Chacon Pizza liquor-renewal hearing; applicant given two weeks to secure state clearances

The East Greenwich Town Council agreed on Jan. 12 to continue the renewal hearing for Chacon Pizza’s Class B license to Jan. 26 after the applicant said state paperwork and an insurance-certificate amendment remained outstanding. Town Clerk Lee Carney told the council the application was pending clearance from the Rhode Island Division of Taxation and a retail sales tax permit; she had also requested a revised certificate of liability insurance listing the town as certificate holder.
The applicant described delays with the state and her accountant and asked for another two-week extension, saying, "Maybe I'm going to need another 2 weeks," and that she was working with her accountant to get the paperwork submitted. Councilors emphasized that if this was a legal issue the applicant should have an attorney contact the town solicitor and outline a clear, achievable path to obtaining the state good-standing certificate; otherwise the council signaled it could allow the liquor portion of the license to lapse. The motion to extend the existing license from Jan. 12 to Jan. 26 and to continue the public hearing passed 5–0.
