Council presents commendations for housing leader, centenarian, and volunteer garden club

The council used the opening portion of its Sept. 8 meeting to present one commendation and two proclamations. Cynthia (Cindy) White Overton received a commendation for more than 20 years of service on the East Greenwich Housing Authority; colleagues praised her steady leadership, citing development work including 2,880 South County Trail and 83 additional housing units during her tenure.
President Mark Schwager read a proclamation honoring Charlotte Dumas on her 100th birthday and recounted Dumas’s lifelong ties to East Greenwich, college education and early career, and community activities. The council also recognized the Cindy Wood Garden Club for creating a pollinator pathway, and Leslie Pires said the project was launched with a $500 grant from the Rhode Island Federation of Garden Clubs and will be dedicated Oct. 2.
