County IT installs lake cameras, adds backup connections and password manager

Jefferson County IT reported installation of 20 cameras covering much of the lake, is rolling out secondary wireless connections for landfill and other sites to preserve payment systems during outages, and will distribute LastPass licenses to staff.
Darren from the county IT department told commissioners his team installed about 20 cameras that now cover roughly 90% of the lake area and are configuring pan/tilt/zoom routines to monitor activity and license plates. "There's 20 cameras watching almost, yeah, 90% of the lake right now," he said.
Darren also said IT is working to put in secondary wireless Internet connections for the landfill and other remote sites so credit-card readers will continue to function when a primary connection fails. He said the department purchased a limited number of LastPass licenses to help staff manage growing numbers of passwords and reduce resets.
Commissioners asked IT to prioritize testing of gas-pump interfaces that had previously failed at some sites; Darren said staff will test on-site hardware and replace units if needed. The county did not take any immediate procurement votes on these items during the meeting.
