Fire Chief Nick White told the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners that an AC unit purchased in 2021 for the Ryrie fire station is now incompatible with most county buildings because it requires three-phase power and the building it served burned down. "We have an AC unit that is useless to us," he said, and asked permission for staff to inspect it, determine capacity and resale value, and report back.
Nick White said the unit has been idle since 2021 and estimated the original purchase was in the "$4,000–$5,000 range." Commissioners discussed options including trading the unit for fuel, taking the cost from building-maintenance funds, or selling it. Mike (Road & Bridge) and other staff agreed to inspect the unit and provide more precise square-foot cooling estimates and labor costs.
Chairman Hancock and other commissioners authorized staff to research the unit’s capacity and market options and return with recommendations; no sale or formal transfer was approved at the meeting. The county will decide next steps after staff returns with inspection results and cost estimates.
