Tourism council presses for clearer budget numbers and reserve rules

At the January 15 meeting of the Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council, member Kurt Bozenmayer raised concerns about past accuracy of tourism budget figures and whether the county-held tourism reserve remained in the general fund. Kurt said the tourism budget "is not funded by taxpayer money; it is funded through the TOT tax" and urged clearer accounting of how reserve funds are allocated.
Director of Economic Development and Tourism James Houchins said he and staff will present a more detailed budget next month with line-item breakdowns. James reiterated that marketing grants are reimbursement-based and that applicants must submit receipts and documentation before receiving funds. He said he will consult with the county attorney and County Administrator Michael McGuinness to clarify how the reserve may be used going forward.
