Public works report: hydrant replacements scheduled; two manholes quoted at $3,700

Staff members Todd Gross and Dana Horn updated the council on water, sewer and street operations and upcoming work.
Gross and Horn reported that Precision Grading is scheduled to replace nine hydrants and that the city already has the hydrants on hand. They said Grosz Sand & Gravel hauled five loads of ash to the landfill in Mitchell and picked up a load of chips from Spencer Quarries on return trips, a cost-saving logistics approach noted in the report. The street committee approved replacing the approach to the alley on West Dakota by Sandau Construction.
The staff update also said the town flushed all sewers and will continue routine flushing every few months. Bender Sewer and Drain submitted a quote of $3,700 to rehabilitate two manholes — one on South Main and one by the bus barn — which the council recorded in the minutes for future action.
