The Isle of Wight County Board approved the consent agenda, which bundled several budget amendments, grants and routine items. County staff summarized the packet: a $3,500 social media grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation; Children's Services Act funding appropriations (about $113,000) to support at-risk children and families; radiological emergency preparedness grant funds with $30,000 proposed for emergency management and $6,000 for E-911; a victim-witness assistance program allocation; a $12,000 supplemental request for Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department maintenance; and a $27,000 repair for a donated firefighting boat.
"This is an appropriation, from the state for that purpose," County Administrator Don Robertson said of the CSA funds and explained the radiological preparedness monies are primarily associated with training related to the Surrey nuclear power station and also aid hurricane and disaster response capabilities.
The board moved to approve the consent agenda and recorded affirmative votes from members present. Minutes from prior meetings and several editorial policy revisions were also included on the consent agenda.
