East Greenwich launches yearlong 350th-anniversary planning with public survey

Town staff introduced EG350, the town’s yearlong series of events celebrating East Greenwich’s 350th anniversary, and solicited public input through a survey and upcoming volunteer committees.
Andy Wade, director of community services and parks, said staff hired a dedicated coordinator and formed a steering committee to guide signature events and community involvement. Recreation Manager Rachel Arvidge presented early survey results: 404 total responses with 79 completed submissions, high interest in community events, history-oriented programming and volunteer engagement (about 50% of survey respondents said they would be willing to volunteer).
Staff proposed a four-signature-event framework (heritage festival, gala ball, summer family bash, and a Halloween/fall finale timed to the town’s Oct. 31 founding date) and described next steps: forming subcommittees (fundraising, programming, merchandise), building a public event calendar to avoid conflicting dates, and a January 28 public meeting to recruit volunteers and firm up the calendar.
Council thanked staff for the work and encouraged outreach to schools, community organizations and historical collections to enrich programming.
