Council continues two liquor-license hearings after state tax clearances were missing

The Town Council continued two public hearings related to alcoholic-beverage licenses after municipal staff reported missing state tax clearances and other outstanding compliance items.
Frank and John’s Pizza owner Luz Chacon appeared in person and explained payroll and corporate paperwork delays tied to multiple LLCs and a closed business in Greenville; Town Clerk Lee Carney told the council the application was “almost complete” but still required state tax clearance and a retail-sales-tax permit to satisfy statutory renewal requirements. The council extended the public hearing and the applicant’s license to the January 12, 2026 meeting and asked the applicant to bring legal and accounting representatives to clarify the outstanding documentation.
Tavern in the Square’s renewal and its related corporate transfer were similarly continued. Local counsel Sarah Rudenberg said corporate offices had submitted taxes and materials to the state but the Division of Taxation had not yet issued the formal letter of good standing; the council agreed to continue the hearing and allowed the town clerk to issue the renewal in advance only if the clerk later confirmed full compliance on the portal.
The council emphasized the statutory requirement that retail-sales-tax clearance be provided before licenses can be renewed and requested that applicants coordinate directly with the town solicitor and clerk to expedite compliance.
