IT fund shows one-time fiber expense and incoming cell-tower lease revenue

IT Director Doug Akins said the enterprise fund supports about 1.5 FTEs and that this year included a one-time CIP transfer of $350,000 to extend fiber to Fire Stations 22 and 26. He said that transfer made this year’s budget 28% larger and next year shows a reduction because that cost is not included again.
Akins said revenue increases next year include new cell tower leases and dark fiber leases approved by council; those recurring charges-for-services revenues will appear in the IT fund. Council asked for timing on when cell towers would be built; Akins said environmental studies and carrier budget cycles make deployment variable and estimated 1 to 1.5 years for some sites to go vertical. Staff agreed to provide rollout updates to council so members can inform constituents about service improvements.
