The Hanover County School Board approved an operating-budget amendment at its July 14 meeting to incorporate state and federal funding changes and to address local priorities. Ms. Stone briefed the board on updates following the General Assembly and the governor’s signing of the biennial budget.
Ms. Stone identified the total amendment at roughly $3,200,000 and described key allocations: continued investment in the teacher pay scale (about $1,400,000), a 1% merit pool whose estimated full cost would be about $2,000,000 with the state supplement covering roughly $700,000, a $350,000 investment in 24/7 technology monitoring software, categorical additions including roughly $889,000 in SPED funding and a $500,000 increase in Title I for tutoring and transportation, and $150,000 for athletic field maintenance. Ms. Stone said the division plans to reserve about $521,000 pending enrollment clarity. "This is all in regards to the operating fund," she said, and noted the amendment is balanced on paper.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the technology monitoring purchase and state compensation supplements; Ms. Stone replied that the monitoring system provides immediate alerts and that the state supplement does not cover the full local cost of compensation increases. The operating amendment was moved and approved by voice vote.
