Jefferson County commissioners approved funding to complete a camera system at Jefferson Lake after staff reported expanded coverage and a final invoice below initial estimates.
Parks staff said the system now includes 20 cameras covering the playground, main lot and parking areas, and that recordings will be retained at least a week and possibly up to 30 days with access provided to the sheriff's department. The parks representative reported a final combined bill of $21,877 for equipment and labor, and noted a parks/recreation surplus of about $11,797 remained from a prior playground allocation.
"The total amount is 21,000 say 877 with $12,000 coming from ARPA funds and the remainder coming from the parks and recreation budget," the committee member moving the funding motion said during the meeting. The motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote.
The board’s action authorizes the treasurer to apply $12,000 from an already-allocated ARPA line item and to cover the balance from the parks and recreation budget to settle the invoice and complete installation.
