Commission approves county asphalt-mixing PO for next season

Brent McKay, county public works director, presented a procurement recommendation to secure asphalt mixing capacity for the upcoming road season.
McKay said the county issued an RFP and received two bids; the lowest responsible bidder was selected to provide approximately 10,000 tons of asphalt mix for next year’s overlays and road work. He described that continuing the county’s 12-mile-per-year overlay and sealing program requires large quantities of material and appropriate contracting.
A commissioner moved to approve the purchase order for the mixing contract as presented; another commissioner seconded and the motion carried on a voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded on the record.
Public-works staff noted a portion of the county’s sealing program will use double-seal treatments where underlying pavement is failing and will include milling and base reconstruction prior to application of surface material.
