Trey Dail noted FAA guidance recommending siting lagoon systems roughly 5,000 feet from airports serving small aircraft and about two miles from airports serving jet or turbine aircraft; he also said mechanical treatment systems carry much less wildlife risk and that mitigations exist for lagoons.
Commissioners expressed concern that both candidate sites are within the airport environment and could present similar wildlife risks, and Haley said she would notify the feasibility study engineer that bird and wildlife attraction issues must be evaluated if lagoon treatment is contemplated.
