City manager (speaker 6) told the council the city held a bid opening for the Joshua Dixon and West Salem sanitary sewer replacement project and that legislation to award the contract was on the agenda. Council later approved an emergency ordinance authorizing a contract with Rudsic Excavating of Struthers, Ohio, for materials and construction on the Joshua Dixon/West Salem sanitary sewer replacement project.
The manager also reported the city applied to the Ohio Department of Transportation small cities program for funding to improve Pittsburgh Street from Main Street to Duquesne Street near the high school and said staff filed a NatureWorks grant application through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to resurface Firestone Pool in Firestone Park. He reviewed preconstruction meetings on State Route 14 (280-day window) and a North Drive intersection straightening project starting Sept. 8, and noted added paving funded via $6.29 allocations to finish contiguous paving runs.
