Houston County approves eight special-exception home-business permits
Summary
The Board approved Special Exception Applications #2798–#2805 for home-based businesses (detailing, landscaping, educational services, construction and trades, pool construction, locksmithing, and home accessories) and cautioned applicants that neighborhood covenants may still restrict activities.
The Houston County Board of Commissioners approved Special Exception Applications #2798 through #2805 during the Oct. 1 meeting, allowing the listed home-based businesses to operate subject to any Zoning & Appeals stipulations and Section 95 staff requirements. Motion by Commissioner Byrd, second by Commissioner Robinson, carried unanimously.
County Attorney Tom Hall addressed all applicants, saying that "even if the Board of Commissioners approves an application, neighborhood covenants may still impose certain restrictions upon or against home businesses. These restrictive covenants are not superseded by any action the Board of Commissioners takes." Applicants were instructed to next apply for business licenses in the Commissioner's Office.
