County proclaims November Operation Green Light, praises Veterans Outreach Center

The Guadalupe County Commissioner’s Court on Nov. 5 approved a proclamation supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans and urged residents and businesses to display a green light from Nov. 4–11 in recognition of veterans.
Nancy Russell, the county’s veteran service officer, described the county’s Veterans Outreach Center and the services it houses, saying, “Guadalupe County has a total of 17,877 veterans” and that the center provides mental-health support, homelessness prevention and social activities that many local veterans use. Commissioner Seidenberg read the proclamation on the record and the court moved and approved the proclamation by voice vote.
The resolution cites the county’s partnership with the National Association of Counties and lists local veterans’ organizations that contribute services, including the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Russell noted that of the county total, 3,347 are active-duty military and that staff at the Voc have substantial combined military experience, which she said helps veterans connect with care.
The court invited veterans present to join for a photo after the proclamation. The proclamation was approved with no recorded opposition; the court and staff encouraged residents to attend Veterans Day events organized countywide.
